Description Merrimack Arms & Manufacturing Co. Ballard Sporting Rifle chambered for .44 RF This example with S/N 20051 with matching serial numbers throughout features a 26″ octagonal barrel with blade front sight and rotating carbine style rear sight. There is a dovetail groove milled in the wrist for a tang style peep. The top of the barrel is marked “No. 44.”, and the serial number is marked on the top of the barrel near the breech, and on the top of the frame. The left side of the frame is marked “Merrimack Arms & M.F.G. Co. / Newburyport Mass. / Ballard’s Patent / Nov. 5 1861”. A patent date is also marked on the left of the hammer. The stock and forearm are Rosewood with plated forend and crescent buttplate. Antique, ships directly to buyer.

Condition: Fine with a good deal of original finish and sharp lettering. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and the action functions as expected.
