Description WW1 Colt British Contract M1911 semi auto pistol chambered in .455 Webley. Identified by the “W” prefix in the serial number for Webley which reads “W99896” and the legend on the slide which reads “COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE 455” these British contract pistols began production at Colt in 1916 to satisfy the inability of Webley to produce needed pistols in .455 Webley cartridge. Since .455 Webley and .45 ACP are so close dimensionally it was a no brainer for Colt to satisfy the needs of our close ally. This example dates towards the end of production and exhibits most of the characteristics expected including the lanyard loop magazine marked “CAL .455 / ELEY” on the floor plate. Internal are marked “E” and the barrel has British proofs on the outside of the chamber. Ships to FFL/C&R Only. Condition: VERY GOOD showing a large percentage of original finish but considerable thinning on the high spots indicative of use. There are several nicks in the frame especially around the takedown pins. The front grip strap has been randomly stippled though not too extreme. The diamond checkered grip panels are in nice condition with minimal wear. The bore is slightly frosted but retains good rifling. Barrel Length: 5″ Serial: W99896 Manufacturer: Colt Year: 1918 Caliber: .455 WEBLEY Model: 1911
