Factory letter confirms the features and grade of the gun. Custom made for Abercrombie and Fitch. The letter also states that the gun was returned to Winchester twice, presumably to add the rear wood extension and leather butt pad. Matte rib barrels with 2 3/4 inch chambers, ejectors, and “WS-1/WS-2” marked chokes. Other barrel set is “Full/Mod”. The barrel flats and water table are both marked with the Winchester “WP” proof. The water table has the three-line model and address on the left side and three-line patent numbers on the right. Fitted with a single gold trigger that has selector built in. Checkered beavertail forearm with a ebony tip and straight grip English stock with a padded leather butt. Inscription plate on bottom of stock is blank. It lists the measurements and stock details as follows: “Pitch -2 in., Pull -14 3/16 in., Drop at heel -2 3/8 in., Drop at comb -1-7/8 in.”, “Weight: 6 lbs. 6 oz.”, English comb width, and Custom grade wood and custom finish. It was manufactured for Abercrombie and Fitch Company on order 868-13A as Item #1. Work at the factory started on March 4, 1940. The inspection started on March 20, 1940, and completed March 28, 1940. The shotgun was packed that day. Custom Abercrombie & Fitch Leather case and canvas over case. The case contains two nickel snap caps, rangoon oil bottle, a two piece hardwood cleaning rod, cleaning rod heads and other accessories.Name plate appears to been added after purchase. Its current LOP (Trigger to center) is 14 9/16″
Excellent overall condition, Bluing is 90-95%. Only wear on the high edges and grip area of trigger guard. Bores are bright and shiny. Function is excellent. small chip on bottom of stock where it meets the body. Furniture otherwise has very few noticeable flaws.
