Absolutely stunning Winchester 21 Special ordered for the Grand American Handicap as a champion trophy gun in 1953. Lettered by Cody Firearms Museum, and original features confirmed by them. Additional Letter from Pauline Muerrle confirms this as a No. 6 Pattern engraving by George Ulrich. This Custom Built Trap Gun has a 30″ Vent Rib barrel in a matte blue, White front bead sight and middle white bead sight. Marked “CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER” on rib with wedge shaped scroll work by breech. Underside of barrels is marked “WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL” choked “FULL” & “FULL”. Barrel flats are appropriately marked with Winchester proofs, gauge, chambering and serial number. Water table is engine turned and marked “MADE IN USA MODEL 21 / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN, CONN.” Auto ejectors, Non Automatic safety, and custom “Miller” selective trigger that replaced the original. The side of the receiver is fully engraved with dense flowing scroll patterns surrounding finely detailed hunting dog and bird scenes with a pointer on the right, setter on the left, and a pair of pheasants on the underside. The birds and dogs are inlaid with gold. The fences are engraved with a deep relief oak leaf. The trigger guard is engraved with a matching scroll and a gold inlaid portrait of a dog with matching scroll on the tangs and lever. Along with the trigger upgrade, the Pistol grip stock and beavertail foregrip have been replaced with Extra fancy walnut, pistol grip cap marked “BRENT UMBERGER/MASTER STOCKMAKER” Fleur-de-lis hand checkering on stock and foregrip are exquisite and crisp, reminiscent in style to the original 21-B carving by Winchester. Pacmayr decelerator butt pad. Included is custom Americase hard aluminum travel case, custom embroidered interior. Outer protective black canvas cover bears the initials “J.D.B” *C&R Eligible Condition: Excellent as customized. Barrel was polished and re-blued in a matte blue sheen and shows no wear or blems post re-blue, note the engraving wedge by breech was softened when they re-blued it. Wood furniture is excellent with only a blem or two. Lock up and functionally excellent. Trigger upgraded. Case is used but still very good condition. This gun is ready for decades of further use.
