Description Eli Whitney rimfire conversion single action revolver chambered in .22. This revolver appears to have been a circa 1860 Navy which was originally chambered in .38 rimfire and subsequently converted at some point to .22. The octagon barrel with roll stamp “E. WHITNEY / N HAVEN” has been sleeved, target sights have been added including an adjustable rear u-notch sight. A spacer and modified cylinder for .22 have been transplanted and a standard style SAA spring loaded ejector, cylinder and rod fitted to the barrel and frame. The frame is void of markings and “2408” is stamped on the underside of the barrel. The fit of the grips indicate they are replacements. Ships to FFL/C&R Only. Condition: This is somewhat of a mystery as the patina shows that this has existed in this configuration for some time. If we consider that this could possibly be a factory prototype it would grade VERY GOOD. However we must note that it is composed of major replacement parts and could be the work of a very good gun smith some time in the past. Given that it would grade lower due to those factors. The action appears to function properly with the hammer sticking intermittently. The bore is clean with good rifling.
