Description Folding bayonet Blunderbuss by William Horton, a well-known British gunmaker dating to circa 1790. This example features a 15″, two stage brass barrel with belled muzzle and octagonal breech. The visible marking on top of the breech is “HORTON – SALOP” and bears twice stamped Tower of London cross scepters and crown proof marks along with the maker mark “W – HORTON” on the lock plate. This is equipped with a spring loaded top folding spike bayonet that locks in place upon release. Additional brass features include thimbles, engraved trigger guard, unmarked wrist medallion, and butt plate with engraved top strap. Antique and ships direct to most buyers. Condition: Good with clear markings. There are two small surface splits in in the raised area surrounding the lock plate. The stock is otherwise solid exhibiting scattered marks from handling and storage. Mechanical function appears to be in very good condition.
