Description Sharps model 1863 falling block rifle converted to .45-70 center fire. This example with “C” prefix serial number 44055 (144055) on the tang features a 28″ octagon barrel with dovetailed front blade and ladder rear sight marked “R.S. LAWRENCE / PATENTED / FEB 15 1859”, straight falling block, scant hardwood forearm and butt stock with saddle ring blank and steel butt plate. Receiver markings include “C SHARPS PAT / SEPT 12th 1848 ‘ and “C. SHARPS’ / OCT 5th 1852”. There is a faint and illegible cartouche on the wrist and the letter “C” rear of the lower tang. Antique and ships direct to most buyers. Condition: Good with the barrel having turned a dark patina with mottled appearance on the receiver, lever, and tangs. The butt stock may be a replacement.
