Description This lot is for two Savage Model 1861 Navy percussion revolvers in .36 caliber with a six round capacity and a 7″ octagon barrel. Produced specifically for the U.S. Civil War between 1861 and 1862. The 1861 Navy featured a unique cocking mechanism ( Proto Double Action ) where the shooter’s middle finger was used to draw back the lever just below the trigger to cock the hammer and rotate the cylinder eliminating use of the thumb and keeping the muzzle pointed at the target. Finish worn frames, triggers, hammers, cocking mechanisms, cylinders and barrels. Front fixed brass post sights. These examples are two of only 20,000 guns produced between 1861 and 1862. The top strap is marked “SAVAGE R.F.A. Co MIDDLETOWN. CT / H.S.NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17 1856 / JANUARY 10 1859 MAY 15 1860”. Antique, No FFL required and ships to MOST buyers homes. Condition: Antique, Poor with scratches, finish wear/loss, rust/pitting, wood grip damage and one pistol is missing its ramrod and rear backstrap screw. The one missing the ramrod does not function.
