UPDATE 2: Added photos of the water table, barrel flats, hairline crack in pistol grip, a minor stock repair and pitting on the metal surfaces. At this point, we feel the stock has been touched up but not fully refinished. Metal refinishing is up for debate…. If it was refinished, it was done exceptionally well. UPDATE:We took a set of long reach micrometers and dipped them in the breech until they hit the front edge of the chamber. It was measured at 3 1/4″, with that said we are confident that this is chambered for the 3 1/4″ case length .500 BPE. As always, we recommend a competent gunsmith give the gun a once over and his blessing prior to firing…
Polished bead blade front sight and two leaf express rear sight on the 25.5″ blued barrels with “J.D. DOUGALL Gun & Rifle Manufacturer to HRH The Prince of Whales’ 59 St JAMES’S St LONDON” in a panel near the breech. The undersides of both barrels are marked with serial number, “500” and “crown/ V” & proofs on the chambers and water table, and “crown/ GP” proofs on the chambers. Bottom of action is engraved “J. D. Dougall?s Patent Lock-fast” . Casehardened frame with border engraving, “J.D. DOUGALL” on right lock plate, “By special warrant to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh” floral patterns on the screws and a central motif of ?Prince of Wales” plumes on upper tang. Checkered tiger stripe walnut pistol grip stock, with horn grip cap, engraved hardware, sling mounts, rough textured metal butt plate. Antique, No FFL Required
Condition: Barrels retain high 90% of their bluing with a few 1mm specks of rust half way down on the left barrel. Case coloring is brilliant. Stock has hairline crack just above the pistol grip, cap is holding it together nicely and should be an easy repair. Touch of pitting on the left hammer/hammer screw and take down lever. Bores are mirror bright and rifling is sharp. Lock up and action is excellent.
