Hardly seen but not to be overlooked. This Mauser style rifle by Holland & Holland combines the functionality of a magazine fed bolt action with the craftsmanship of Holland & Holland. The .240 H&H Magnum (.240 Apex) was a proprietary round designed for deer, antelope and other plains game. Ammunition & brass is still available. The 23″ barrel slender and considerate of weight, sporting a front sight that has a hinge hood. Brazed sling eyelet and matching sling in stock. Rear express sight, one fixed, one folding. Fixed sight is marked “100”, folding is marked “250”. Top of breech has numerous proofs and name of rifle. “Cordite 34-100”. Holland & Holland records state “5 shots at 100yds in 1 7/8 x 1/12” (referring to grouping). Manufactured and tested in mid 1926 bearing serial# 585. Action resembles a Mauser 98 with finer details such as a fire blued bolt and bolt release. Bolt handle is turned down and recessed nicely into stock. Condition: Very Fine. Bluing is >80% with scratches, wear and signs of use all around. Wood stock is free of cracks and major damage, however it shows its share of nearly a hundred years of handling marks scratches, and wear. Butt plate is whole with some dings and chips. Action is smooth. Bore is very sharp and free of oxidation.
