Description US marked Colt Model 1878/1902 Philippine Contract Revolver in .45 Long Colt with a six round capacity and a 6″ barrel. Made in Hartford Connecticut in 1902 with serial number 44581. This is one of the first 250 shipped to the Army for trial and rejected for use with the smaller 1878 trigger and guard. These rejected revolvers were later sold off. The Philippine Models were made from modified 1878 revolvers with the addition of stronger mainsprings, lanyard loops, larger trigger guards and elongated triggers. Under five thousand of these were contracted and sent to the Philippines. Checkered composite grip plates. Blued trigger guard, trigger, frame, knurled hammer, cylinder and barrel. Bottom of pistol grip located lanyard loop. Under barrel cylinder release base pin and ejector rod housing. Right side of frame loading gate. Serial number matching on the bottom of frame, cylinder face and loading gate. Underside of barrel marked: K P. Rear left side of frame inspector marked: R.A.C. Rinaldo A. Carr’s. Right side of frame marked: US 1902 JTT-John T. Thompson. Must ship to a C&R or FFL holder. Condition: Good with finish wear/loss, light spots of rust/pitting and handling wear.
