Description U.S. Civil War Savage model 1861 Navy percussion revolver chambered in .36. Produced specifically for civil war use, the 1861 Navy featured a unique cocking mechanism where the shooter’s middle finger was used to draw back the lever just below the trigger to cock the hammer and rotate the cylinder eliminating use of the thumb and keeping the muzzle pointed at the target. This example with serial number 11048 stamped on the frame under the grips is one of only 20,000 guns produced between 1861 and 1862. This features a 7″ octagon barrel with post front fixed v-notch rear sight. The top strap is marked “SAVAGE R.F.A. Co MIDDLETOWN. CT / H.S.NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17 1856 / JANUARY 10 1859 MAY 15 1860”. The barrel and frame are stamped “W”. Antique and ships direct to buyer. Condition: Very Good with the metal surfaces, cylinder and chambers show pitting while most of the nipples are intact, The hammer tension remains strong and the unique action functions as expected.
