Description Springfield Armory Model 1884 Trap Door Breech loading rifle chambered in 45-70 Government with a single round capacity and a 32″ barrel. This rifle was carried and fired ceremonially by the 1st Company Governors Foot Guard Grenadiers from Hartford Connecticut. Founded in 1771, The First Company Gov Foot Guard is the oldest continuously serving military organization in the United States. Front fixed blade sight and bayonet lug, two barrel bands, Buffington rear sight, and full length stock with steel butt plate. SWP 1891 acceptance proof on the left side of the wrist, faint Circle P rear of the trigger guard and US marking on the top of butt plate. The wrist bears a brass nameplate marked: FG identifying it a Foot Guard carried rifle. From the collection of Stephen King, SFC, Armorer (Ret).
