Description ****UPDATE: The serial number for this rifle was originally applied August 08, 1887. And was originally chambered in .45-70 and had a 30″ octagonal barrel. On November 14, 1887 the caliber was switched to .40-65. This information is provided by the Cody Firearms Records Office. At some point since, the rifle had its barrel shortened to 26″ and was rechambered for 40-82 Winchester. Which is not found in the records. The caliber is stamped on the top of the barrel, and the caliber has been confirmed.**** Antique second year of production Winchester model 1886 chambered in .40-82 Winchester with a full length tubular magazine and a 22″ octagonal barrel. Manufactured in 1887 with a four digit serial of 7659. Blued barrel, magazine tube, bolt, and trigger. In the white barrel band, frame, loading gate, hammer, and lever. Adjustable rear sight and fixed front blade. Smooth wood forend and straight stock with blued crescent butt plate. The top of the tang is marked “-MODEL 1886-“. The bottom of the grip is marked “-PAT, OCT 14.1884 JAN 20 1885-“. Antique ships directly to MOST buyers homes. Condition: Antique good with general scratches, scuffs, sharp edge wear, and contact wear on the finish. Heavy finish patina on most of the metal parts, with the non blued parts being in the white. Varying spots of metal oxidation/pitting. Light scratches, scuffs, and dings on the wood. The bore is bright but shows spots of metal oxidation and pitting throughout, the rifling is visible and still relatively strong down the full length of the bore.
