Left side of frame marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY, with Eagles Head S5 Springfield inspection mark above magazine release. Slide bears two-line Colt Hartford mark with rampant Colt. and MODEL OF 1911 US ARMY. Barrel Marked S and COLT 45 AUTO. Markings to top of frame worn and illegible. Condition is as expected for use in Two World Wars, with little remaining finish, heavy use and marks. Appears complete, possible replacement controls with better finish. Worn, but likely original wood grips. Good Smooth Function. Original service Holster. This gun is accompanied by the Military archive of its last owner: First Lieutenant Stanley S. Maluski Corps of Engineers Company 868 Engineer Aviation Battalion. The archive includes a Veteran certified copy of his service record, His Dress jacket and Hat, M3 Fighting Trench Knife with USM8 Scabbard (blade with some rust) Two Trench Carvings, his Sterling ID bracelet with presentation from his wife, a pair of his original brass dog tags, some miscellaneous pins and medals, and photographs of him in uniform, during the war (carrying the M1911) and his Military ID Card. The lot is accompanied by a Colt Archive letter confirming that the gun was shipped to the United States Government on September 12, 1918. Special Shipping item due to size.
