Description Springfield model 1885 Trapdoor rifle chambered in .45-70. This example with early features is outfitted with a 32-1/2″ barrel marked “V / P / Eagle” with M79 front blade and M79 rear sight, smooth trigger, “US / MODEL / 1884” marked trapdoor and “US” marked steel butt plate. The stock bears the cartouche “SWP / 1883” and Circle “P” behind the lower tang. Antique and ships directly to buyer. Condition. Good condition with the metal turned a dark patina. There is surface corrosion behind the breach and on the tang obscuring the serial number. The bore shows dark streaks and areas of corrosion but still retains strong rifling. The ramrod is missing.
