Full length stock percussion smooth-bore rifle in .38 caliber. Brass blade dovetail front sight and small v groove rear sight. The lock plate shows worn engraving with the plate marked “J&W. Aston”. The brass furniture includes fore-end cap, octagon ramrod thimbles, floor plate, trigger guard, toe and butt plate and cartridge trap. There is also a silver nam plate on the top of the wrist that is unmarked. The full stock has a Monte Carlo cheekpiece with silver moon inlay and wooden ramrod. The barrel has a heavy brown patina with pitting at the breech and on the nipple. The lock plate and lock are a grey/black in color. The action works but the trigger must be manually set. The wood is solid with finish wear under the stock and at the wrist. There is stock loss both forward and rear of the nipple from combustion. This rifle definitely saw it’s share of use in the field.
